The scope of MRC-SAT is to develop a set of innovative ground segment features, along with a highly efficient return technology to the SOHO and Consumer segment.

The activity also responds to the Mobile Backhaul need of an effective GTP acceleration and tunnelling for the more efficient use of satellite resources. Lasting Software, a subcontractor in this endeavour, covers the Satellite Cellular Backhaul use cases and testing.

Within scope is also the introduction of scalable metrics monitoring functionality. This requirement is triggered by the evolution of large number of terminals networks and the large number of satellite beams in which they can be active, as well as the need for higher frequency of monitoring events and longer availability of detailed metrics info over time.

The Dialog® technology for the consumer segment, largely 4CPM based, needs a performance boost. This is a challenging task since the installed base of consumer CPEs needs to be furnished with a cost-efficient replacing alternative. At the same time, this requires careful orchestration in the new product introduction.

MRC-SAT introduces a new cost-effective consumer terminal modem MDM2010 and linear modulation.

At backend, a new Multi-Carrier device hosts this new physical layer product introduction.

The low and medium segment modems are up heeled and further developed to support the new return technology.

Scalability and density of the Dialog hub are significantly enhanced.

Scalable and efficient Point-to-Multipoint satellite communication system with fixed and mobile, consumer, SOHO, backhaul and professional satellite terminals.

System Architecture

The Dialog® system contains the Dialog® platform and the family of Dialog® satellite terminals.

The MRC-SAT Project Plan stresses on a fast paced but relatively low-risk trajectory towards well-defined Product Specifications driven by market needs. With reviews at System Requirements (MS1), Baseline (MS2) and Midterm (MS3) Design stages, the Project Management concludes with the Final Review (MS4). Anticipatory risk mitigation measures are in place to avoid potential scope creeping. Careful monitoring of market dynamics, and follow-up on changes of customer requirements through the Product Development Team, are instrumental to adapt the Project Plan and include new requirements if necessary.

Current status

The project kicked off on September 2019.
